I've never heard it before either. It's pretty. I hope he wrote it for his daughter and not in anticipation of all the money he'd make having it played at weddings. ;)
I saw him on Oprah years ago. His wife and teenage daughter were on with him. His wife said that the first time he sat her down and sang it to her she cried her eyes out and told him "I hate you"
I hate that song. And not because it's sad, but because about 10 years ago when that song was popular they overplayed it so much on the radio that it was constantly going thru my head. I refused to have that as the father-daughter dance!!!!!

your cousin had that song when she got married at there receiption for her and her father to dance.
